Officers spotted two vehicles that grabbed their interest: a BMW X3 and a sleek 2020 Mercedes AMG GT. They pulled both cars over near 1387 Watertown Avenue, and that’s where things escalated.

The driver of the BMW, 31-year-old Demetrius Hunter from Waterbury, didn’t have the best luck. He had active warrants out for his arrest and, to make matters worse, officers found a stash of heroin and fentanyl in his ride. Hunter isn’t a stranger to trouble; his criminal record includes past offenses related to narcotics, firearms, assaults, and even multiple robbery convictions.

Then there was Malik Pete, the 27-year-old behind the wheel of the Mercedes. Like Hunter, Pete also has a checkered past, with felony drug convictions and currently being on parole. When cops searched his car, they found not just more heroin and fentanyl, but also cocaine and a loaded 9mm Glock 17. This weapon wasn’t just any gun—it had a fully automatic switch and a high-capacity magazine, making it particularly dangerous.

Here’s a quick breakdown of what was seized during the operation according to a Waterbury PD press release:

  • 216 bags of heroin/fentanyl
  • 32.4 grams of raw heroin
  • 13 grams of cocaine
  • 35 controlled substance pills
  • 1 loaded 9mm Glock 17 with a fully automatic switch and high-capacity magazine
