What I thought was going to be a nightmare turned out to be relatively painless.

It was 2 pm on Thursday afternoon and my number was D-604 and there were easily 34 other people waiting for their turn. This was my third try to register our new purchase, a 2001 Honda Civic DX with 94,000 miles on the odometer and the latest 2001 factory-installed cassette deck. My impression was I was going to be camping out for days but I was pleasantly surprised.

For my DMV adventure, I brought along my pile of paperwork and stuffed it all in my man purse complete with my 2016 MacBook Pro laptop because I had an inkling I might be hangin' out for a while. If I was really on top of my DMV game, I would have stopped by Pippa's for a cheeseburger and fries to go. I must say the Danbury DMV had 14 stations crankin' away and calling numbers like it was a bingo night at the VFW!

Let me direct your attention to the DO NOT LEAN AGAINST BLUE BACKDROP' sign. Each station now has a standing camera to take your photo when you renew your driver's license. You're instructed to stand in front of the blue backdrop. I asked my guy, Karl who was processing my paperwork at station #7, "Why the sign?"

Karl told me people would try and lean back against the heavy plastic backdrop while having their license photo taken and then proceed to fall ass-over-backward sometimes bringing down the entire structure. He then looked at me trying not to laugh.

After hearing nightmarish tales of DMV lines out the door, temper tantrums, and various individuals falling over while having license photos taken, I have to say that my personal DMV experience wasn't all that bad at the Danbury branch. It comes down to what time of day you choose to go. I found that between 9 and 11 am, waiting times were only between 10 to 20 minutes. You can also check the wait times at each Connecticut DMV by clicking on, dmvselfservice.ct.gov.
