Winstons Beds analyzed various noise sources, including flights overhead, commuter traffic, public transit density, and construction activity, to create noise scores for each state. The result? Some states are far noisier than others.

The loudest state in the U.S. is New Jersey, which also happens to be the most densely populated. A combination of frequent flights, heavy construction activity, and a bustling public transit system pushed it to the top of the list. Massachusetts and Pennsylvania follow closely behind, with noisy airports and busy housing developments contributing to their high rankings.

Here are the top ten loudest states:

  1. New Jersey
  2. Massachusetts
  3. Pennsylvania
  4. Florida
  5. Rhode Island
  6. Delaware
  7. Maryland
  8. Illinois
  9. Colorado
  10. Connecticut

Interestingly, New England states make up a significant portion of the loudest list, due to high population densities and major transport hubs.

On the flip side, if you're seeking peace and quiet this holiday season, look to the following states, which offer a much calmer environment:

  1. Alaska
  2. Minnesota
  3. Montana
  4. North Dakota
  5. Kansas
  6. Nebraska
  7. Iowa
  8. Vermont
  9. Wyoming
  10. South Dakota

With fewer people and less traffic, these states provide the perfect backdrop for a peaceful Christmas away from the noise.
