UConn's Department of Animal Science was established in 1881, one of the first disciplines taught at the University. Over 400 current students have learned how to take care and nurture the cattle on campus, and most of the cattle being sold at the auction were born this year in March, April, and May.

Of the 27 cattle that will be auctioned, all are either Hereford or Angus. There will be eleven steers, six are Hereford, and five Angus. Eight Heifers will be on the block, also a mix of Hereford and Angus. UConn will also sell off four bulls, and four cows at the event. Click HERE for the full list, which includes the birth date, weight, weaning weight, and sire.

The sale animals are on public viewing right now, you can see them at the Cattle Resource Unit on Horsebarn Hill Road in Storrs Monday through Friday between 11AM and 3PM. If you have any questions, e-mail mary_margaret.smith@uconn.edu.

Also, I like to think that I have the ambition of Lloyd, Jimmy, and Teeter, so if you need an extra hand at tending your UConn beef cattle, hit me up.
