Looks like another casualty of the internet. The folks at Hobby Town in New Milford have decided it's time to retire and are closing their Route 7 location.

For Craig and Robin at Hobby Town, the time had finally come to call it a career and close the store they had operated in New Milford for almost three decades.

I have been a Hobby Town customer for many years and stopped in the other day to learn they were going to be closing. "It's 7 days a week everyday" Robin told me, "It's time to step away and spend more time with my family. I have grand kids that are growing up, and I want to be a part of their lives before they get too big. My husband and I did some serious thinking and felt the time was right".

Family time is not the only reason the popular hobby store is closing. The internet had something to do with their decision too. "We just can't compete with online shopping," Robin told me. "They're selling stuff cheaper than we could ever sell it. We even lowered our prices, but there's no way we can compete."

Hobby Town has been in New Milford for over 28 years, first located in the Walmart shopping center and now, for the last 9 years, at 221 Danbury Road.

Now, even though they will be closing this store, they will still be operating their location inside the Hobby Hangout over on Anderson Avenue in New Milford, a world class RC destination. "Are you kidding, my husband could never walk away from it all", Robin told me, "plus RC is where it's at now for younger people".

The Hobby Town store will not be closing right away. Robin said they will stay open until they run out of inventory. As a way to say thanks to everyone who has supported them over the years, they are offering 25% off just about everything in the store. "We have some great customers," Robin said. "We'll definitely miss them. As for me, I'll probably enjoy the first few days of not having to be here, but them I'll probably have to get some type of part time work. I'm not one to just sit around."
