High-speed Ferry To Nantucket Is Out For Repairs
Hey 'islanders' of Connecticut and New York: Call ahead before you start heading to Massachusetts to catch the ferry to your weekend retreat on Nantucket, Block Island, or Martha's Vineyard, one of the big boats 'Sprung a leak'.
According to steamshipauthority.com, the high-speed ferry known as the M/V Iyanough is out of commission for the time being after a small crack was discovered above the waterline on the vessel. The good news is that although there is no timeline for the vessel's return to service, the repairs are already underway with the help of the US Coast guard. According to the report, the crack in the ship's aluminum hull was discovered on Tuesday evening at the end of the operating day, and it appears to be a stress fracture, not as a result of a collision.

The average trip between Cape Cod and Nantucket on one of the high-speed ferries is about an hour long, and each trip can take up to 400 passengers and vehicles. The average ticket price each way is $10 for a single adult passenger, $5-$10 for your bicycle, and $70 - $170 for your vehicle.
What can you do as an alternate mode of transportation? Start swimming, learn how to paddleboard on the open seas, try to hire a local to ferry you over, or wait out the repairs. I'd say your best bet is to wait out the repair. The tourist season is long over, if this had happened two months ago there would be many more angry, stranded passengers cursing that crack.
