The dramatic rescue happened after heavy flooding turned roads into rivers in a matter of minutes. That’s when off-duty firefighter Travis Langan spotted a vehicle partially submerged with a woman still trapped inside. Instead of waiting for emergency crews to arrive, he jumped into action immediately.

Langan climbed onto the roof of the sinking vehicle as floodwaters continued rising around him. With the woman unable to escape, he started smashing through the car’s sunroof using his bare hands along with a metal cup he managed to grab nearby. Eventually, he was able to break through the glass and pull the driver to safety before the situation became even more dangerous.

The woman, Carmen Pinto, later spoke about the terrifying experience and credited Langan with saving her life. Video from the scene shows just how intense the conditions were, with water surrounding the vehicle and rising quickly during the rescue.

Stories like this are a reminder of how fast flash flooding can become deadly. It’s also one of those moments where somebody just happened to be in the right place at exactly the right time and didn’t hesitate to help.

Langan has since been praised online for keeping calm under pressure and doing whatever it took to get the woman out safely. Honestly, breaking through a car sunroof with your hands and a metal cup sounds less like real life and more like something out of an action movie, but in this case, it was very real and likely saved a life.
