Connecticut, despite its size, is seemingly filled with more happy people than almost anywhere else. Is that due to our collective wealth? Is the world's best pizza keeping everyone fat and happy? According to a new study by WalletHub, Connecticut is the 5th happiest state in the US for 2025.

In order to determine their rankings WalletHub compared all 50 states across three key dimensions: Emotional & Physical Well=Being, Work Environment, and Community Environment. Those dimensions were further evaluated using 30 key metrics: Share of Adult Depression, Adequate Sleep Rate, Physical Health Index, Life Expectancy, Food-Insecurity Rate, Suicide Rate, Number of Hours Worked, Commute Times, Underemployment Rate, Economic Security, Median Credit Score, Ideal Weather, Safety, and Divorce Rates.

Connecticut overall ranked at #5, while ranking at #7 in Emotional & Physical Well-Bring, #11 in Work Environment, and #8 in Community & Environment. Connecticut was found to have the 4th lowest suicide rate in the US for 2025, while tying for 5th in fewest work hours with California. Despite having the 4th lowest percentage of income growth in the US, and some of the highest taxes in the nation.

Among our New England neighbors only two others made the Top 10 with New Hampshire and Massachusetts coming in at #8 and #9, while New Jersey beat us in the overall rankings at #4. The happiest state in the US for 2025? Hawaii, while Arkansas, Louisiana and West Virginia ranked as the bottom 3.
