Connecticut Offers a Complimentary Lift to State Beaches + Parks
Park ConneCT was a pilot program for the State of CT last year (2021) and was such a hit, CT Governor Ned Lamont brought it back for 2022.
Park ConneCT is a free shuttle service that takes residents to the following parks and beaches:
- Fort Trumbull State Park
- Hammonasset Beach State Park
- Indian Well State Park
- Osbornedale State Park
- Sherwood Island State Park
- Silver Sands State Park
- Sleeping Giant State Park
The program is a multi-department collaboration between the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) and the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT). CT Governor Ned Lamont had this to say about the program's benefits in a recent press release:
“The ParkConneCT program increases access to the physical, mental, and educational benefits gained from spending time outdoors in these beautiful spaces. It can also help people who have seasonal employment with DEEP get to their workplace. I encourage residents to utilize this service and spend time in our parks this summer.”
You can find more details on how to make the program work for you by entering the DEEP ParkConneCT portal on CT.Gov You should know these "free rides" are not all buses, it all depends on which park you're going to, and from where.
Look, nothing is free, I get it, I live in this state. Every single one of us is one more new tax or traffic jam away from moving to Florida. (Florida you say?) But, while we're here, we might as well take advantage of these "free" programs that have been created, by taking our hard-earned money and spending it in unnecessary manners.
Now, if the State of CT would just allow me to keep the money I earned, I would be able to pay for my own gas and could afford a nice car. I'll see you guys on the bus, if you get there before me, save me a seat in the back.
P.S. I will give credit where credit is due. The CT.Gov portals are helpful and well-organized.
