Fried Dough Lovers Rejoice: Italian Al Is In Torrington
Great fried dough is not easy to find in Connecticut outside of summertime festivals, but a Master lives in Litchfield County, and he's just moved into my hometown of Torrington.
For those who commute along Rt. 202, you couldn't miss Italian Al's roadside stand and food truck in the middle of a parking lot next to the 202 Tavern in New Preston. Over the past couple of years Italian Al has served up some of the finest fresh fried dough that I've had outside of the OLMC Feast in Waterbury. Last year, Italian Al had to temporarily shut down due to a reported illness in the family, and earlier this year they shut down operations in New Preston for good. I have good news, they've moved.
There is an art to making fried dough, the oil needs to be just right, and the toppings are even more important. So, if you would like to get the best fried dough I've had in recent years Italian Al's has now relocated from 202 in New Preston to 202 near the Litchfield/Torrington town line in the parking lot next to the Cumberland Farms at 1439 New Litchfield St (202).
The fried dough that I had on Saturday was delicious, the dough was perfectly cooked, the oil it was cooked in was fresh, and the red sauce and cheese on top was top-notch. Italian Al's serves up more than incredible fried dough, the menu over the weekend had chicken parm, Italian sausage & peppers, meatballs in Carozza, and a nice variety of Take & Bake selections. Welcome to Torrington sinsei.
