A man from Fairfield had a hell of a morning and he's facing multiple charges after a wild incident over the weekend in which he jumped off of the Q Bridge in New Haven into the water below. This happened after allegedly crashing a stolen vehicle and holding a big sack of weed.

According to a press release we received from the Connecticut State Police, at 10:15AM Saturday morning, February 20, 2021, Troopers from the Connecticut State Police - Troop G - responded to a call of a 1 car motor vehicle accident on the Northbound side of the Q/Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge on I-95 in New Haven.

Police say when Troopers pulled up on scene, Abdulrahim Sulaiman, 34 of Fairfield, tried to flee from the accident scene by leaping over the side of the Bridge into the freezing water of the Quinnipiac River/New Haven Harbor below. Here's a Pic from Google of the scene, it's quite a drop -

It was below freezing on Saturday morning and I'm sure that Sulaiman's urge to flee flew out the door as soon as he hit that water, because he gave up, was captured and was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital. Troopers determined that the vehicle that the alleged suspect was driving was stolen and they discovered marijuana in Sulaiman's property. After being treated and released, Sulaiman was arrested and faces these charges:

  • Evading Responsibility/Property Damage
  • Failure to Drive in Proper Lane
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance
  • Possession of less than 1/2 oz of Cannabis
  • 1st Degree Criminal Mischief
  • 2nd Degree Larceny
  • Interference With an Officer/Resisting Arrest
  • Assault of a Police Officer

Sulaiman was held on a $50,000 bond, and will appear in New Haven Superior Court today, February 22.
