Ethan Reflects on 39 Years While Pondering Retirement
Even after 39 years with i95, I can't even imagine hanging up my headphones.
February 28, 2018 marks my 39th anniversary with i95, and I still consider it the job of a lifetime. I've resigned myself to the fact that I'm coming into the home stretch of my radio career, and it makes me terribly uncomfortable. To wake up and still look forward to going into "work" every morning after 39 years has been, and still is, a dream come true.
I'm just beginning to grapple with the reality of retiring eventually. Not in the immediate future, but it still makes me sad. I've already been told by Mindy that there's no freakin' way that I'm retiring before she does. What the hell would I do, brush up on my gardening skills? Maybe I could hang out and take a course on how to make a hell of a pot holder. Mindy thinks I should start my own dog walking service.
My first air shift was on the evening of February 28, 1979 when I was 28 and was still able to grow a head of hair. For now, I think I'll go back into denial mode and just pretend retirement's never going to happen. Can you imagine me still on the air here at i95 for my 50th anniversary at the age of 78?! It just might go something like this:
I would like to thank everyone who took the time to send me "Happy Birthday" wishes for my 67th. I have always said that i95 listeners are the best in the world!
