A Poughquag woman attempted to cross multiple lanes to exit I-84 in Saturday's fatal accident in Fishkill, New York State Police said.

A preliminary investigation revealed 84-year-old Mary Haggerty was in the left lane on westbound I-84 when she attempted to exit the highway. Hagerty's car struck the rear driver's side quarter panel of a car driven by 43-year-old Andre Jenkins, who was exiting from the right lane.

Jenkin's car flipped onto the roof and slid down the shoulder. Haggerty's car flipped over the guide rail and traveled 150 yards down an embankment before it stopped.

Mobil Life transported Haggerty to St. Luke's Hospital where she was pronounced dead upon her arrival.

Jenkins and his 7-year-old son were transported to Saint Luke's Hospital by EMstar with non-life threatening injuries.
