Dr. Anthony Fauci, the Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, joined Governor Lamont today (8/3/20) for Connecticut's coronavirus briefing.

Dr. Fauci discussed how "Connecticut is in a good place" because our base line is very low, and we are in a favorable position to keeping those numbers low. He went on to talk about the 5 principles he believes can help stop the spread of the virus: universal usage of a mask, avoiding crowds, 6 feet social distance, no bars, and washing your hands.

Dr. Fauci additionally answered questions and concerns about students, and teachers going back to school for in-person learning. He said, "the default position should be to try, as best as you can, to open up the schools for in-person learning." He believes the psychological benefit and in some cases, the nutrition, for students who rely on the breakfast and lunches for proper nutrition from the school, are very important. However, he additionally said "the primary consideration should always be the safety, the health and the welfare of the children, as well as the teachers."

"Obviously, where you are right now is a very good place." Fauci stated.

Governor Lamont reported today that Connecticut has officially exceeded 50,000 positive cases, but the state sits at a 0.7% positivity rate and our hospitalizations are declining:
