Discover the Best Cheeseburger in Connecticut for Your Bucket List
Lovefood recently put out a list of the "Bucket-List Cheeseburgers in Every State." They made their determinations using a variety of factors, including user reviews, awards, and "first-hand experience."

In New York, Lovefood chose the Cheeseburger à l’Américaine at Pastis in NYC, and in New Jersey, they say "The Standard" from Diesel and Duke is the top burger. What about the Nutmeg State? Lovefood says there is nothing better than the steamed cheeseburger at Ted's Restaurant in Meriden. Here's what they had to say about Ted's:
An old-school, hole-in-the-wall place that has been around since 1959, Ted’s Restaurant is family-owned and now run by Bill Foreman, the nephew of Ted's son Paul. It’s famous for its signature steamed cheeseburger: a steamed, juicy burger with a thick layer of steamed melted cheese poured over the patty.
If you asked me the best way to prepare meat, steaming wouldn’t be my first choice. However, when it comes to a time-honored tradition like Ted’s, its hard to argue with success. Just think about it—when Ted’s opened its doors in 1959:
- Dwight D. Eisenhower was President.
- The Barbie Doll was invented.
- Hula hoops were all the rage.
- "The Chipmunk Song" was the #1 hit in America.
The Lovefood article is not the first time Ted's has been show love on a national scale. In 2014, Food & Wine Magazine named Ted's one of the Best Burgers in the U.S. They've also been featured in publications like U.S. News & World Report and Yankee Magazine. Ted’s burgers have since become one of those iconic Connecticut treasures, famous far beyond our state’s borders.
