Shirtless Waterbury Man Lies Down in the Middle of Traffic
That's my bike punk!
That was the famous line from the movie Friday shouted by actor Tommy Lister Jr AKA "Deebo" right after he punched "Red" in the face. "Red" ended up getting his bike and his courage back after "Craig" AKA Ice Cube stood up for himself and his neighborhood.
The movie Friday was released in 1995, it had box office success while managing to have a cult following at the same time. I was a sophomore in high school when this came out, and the movie was one of the most popular and quotable films in pop culture at the time.
So, when I saw this video on Tik-Tok, I immediately thought of Deebo. The dude looks like Deebo searching for his bike. The short clip was published to Tik-Tok on March 17, 2022 but Zara @salemtituba.

My hot takes:
- All joking aside, it may be time for a welfare check on our friend here. If lying in the street is not a cry for help, I don't know what is.
- Who the hell films a man in obvious distress, instead of asking if he's OK or needs anything? You have a person who could very likely get hit by a vehicle, lying shirtless in the road and you're first reaction is to film them? I know it's interesting and I might film someone in a situation like this but not until after, I ask if I can help, or try and convince them to get out of the road.
P.S. Waterbury is an odd place, I can't quite put my finger on it, from an identity standpoint. I'd always heard criticism of it, as being a community that was ugly or somehow unsafe. But, then my mother-in-law moved there. We've been spending time at her home, eating and shopping in the city, and I don't see it. I like Waterbury, it's a bit rough around the edges but the people are nice and the place has a lot of history.
