According to research from WalletHub, some cities are getting a lot more bang for their taxpayers' buck than others. While several cities across the country earned high marks for stretching their dollars and delivering results, Connecticut's capital city landed near the very bottom of the list.

Hartford ranked 129th out of 148 cities evaluated, putting it among the worst-run cities in America according to WalletHub's methodology. The study compared the quality of city services against each city's per-capita budget to determine which municipalities are operating efficiently and which ones may not be getting the most out of their resources.

Honestly, we were just talking about this yesterday on the I-95 Morning Show. The fact that Hartford is a pile of poo comes as no surprise to anyone who lives in Connecticut. Whether you're discussing crime, struggling neighborhoods, economic challenges, or the city's long-standing financial issues, Hartford rarely finds itself on the positive side of national rankings.

That's not to say there aren't good things happening in the city. Hartford has a rich history, great cultural attractions, and some passionate residents who care deeply about their community. But when a national study takes a hard look at efficiency and how well local government converts taxpayer dollars into services, Hartford clearly has some work to do.

Meanwhile, cities in states like Utah, Idaho, New Hampshire, and Nebraska dominated the top of the rankings. According to WalletHub, these communities do a better job balancing budgets while still providing quality services to residents.

Here are the ten cities WalletHub says are the best-run in America for 2026:

1. Provo, Utah

2. Nampa, Idaho

3. Manchester, New Hampshire

4. Boise, Idaho

5. Nashua, New Hampshire

6. Sioux Falls, South Dakota

7. Fort Wayne, Indiana

8. Virginia Beach, Virginia

9. Lincoln, Nebraska

10. Mesa, Arizona
