Danbury High School's commencement ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, June 18, at 5 p.m. If Mother Nature decides not to cooperate, the rain date is set for Friday, June 19, also at 5 p.m.

As you can probably imagine, graduation day brings a lot more than caps, gowns, and proud family members. It also brings thousands of people to the area in a relatively short period of time, which means traffic could get pretty busy throughout the afternoon and evening.

City officials are advising motorists to expect delays between approximately 3:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. in the neighborhoods surrounding Danbury High School. Some of the roads expected to see the heaviest traffic include Clapboard Ridge Road, Golden Hill Road, and several nearby streets around the school campus.

If your afternoon plans include traveling through that part of Danbury, you may want to give yourself a little extra time or consider an alternate route if possible. Drivers are also being asked to use caution due to the increased number of pedestrians and vehicles that will be moving through the area before and after the ceremony.

For the graduates and their families, it's a milestone years in the making. For everyone else, it's one of those days where a little patience behind the wheel will probably go a long way.

Congratulations to the Danbury High School Class of 2026. Enjoy the celebration, stay safe, and if you're heading anywhere near the school Thursday afternoon, plan accordingly.

Now I need to remember that I wrote this. I've done articles like this in the past about large events and the traffic they create and then, I inevitably forget and drive face first into the very same traffic nightmare I warned everyone about.
