Danbury’s Betty Ann Medeiros Idealizes Local Area With Paint and Nostalgia
It's not everyday that I get to sit and write about something that will benefit everyone who reads it, but today is one of those days.
I love the Greater Danbury area in a way that is indescribable. Trying to gather up the words to explain your love for something or someone can be difficult and frustrating. But I don't really have to search for the verbal tags anymore, I can advertise my love by hanging some of Betty Ann Medeiros' paintings.
Just a handful of her beautiful pieces will tell anyone who passes by them that I love where I live and celebrate it. I found a slideshow of her work recently on Youtube and reached out to her right away.
I wanted to know when she started painting, what her family thinks, does she sell them? I had to slow myself down and start with the basics, where do you live? I said. I hit her with rapid fire questions, barely any formal introduction, and "where do you live?" Frankly, I'm surprised she didn't call the police. This was my excited way of saying hello, I'm Lou, I love your work and would like to write about it.
In spite of my awkward introduction, Betty Ann did take some time to talk to me and answer my questions.

Thomas Merton was a famous theologian and poet, who said "art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time." I think Betty Ann's work can accomplish that for anyone looking at it.
P.S. Betty Ann does sell some of her work, including affordable prints that she says are very popular.
