Danbury Police: SWAT Responds to Suicidal Person on Park Ave.

Numerous roads in the Park Avenue area of Danbury were shut down in the early part of the day Friday (March 15) as officers responded to a report of potentially suicidal person.

According to a social media post from the Danbury Police Department, a call was received at around 8:00 AM, reporting that a person who lives near the intersection of Park Ave. and West Wooster St. had a rifle and was threatening to harm themselves.

Officers say that when they arrived at the residence, they weren't able to make any contact with the person in question, so they called in the SWAT team and crisis negotiators from the city's Emergency Services Unit. While the area was being secured, people who lived in the surrounding homes were evacuated and roads in the area, including Park Avenue and West Wooster Street, Park Ave. and Greenfield Ave., West Wooster St. and Wooster Heights Rd. and Delta Ave. and Connecticut Ave., were closed down for a period of time.

Thankfully, when the tactical officers entered the Park Ave. home, the person was found to be unharmed and was taken to Danbury Hospital for evaluation at around 11:30 AM.

The DPD made a special note in their report, thanking HART Transit for providing the bus where the evacuated residents stayed put until the incident was resolved. They also gave a warm shout out to the Fire Police from Danbury Volunteer Fire Companies Engine 12 and Engine 8 for their help in keeping traffic under control.

Yet another job well done by the good men and women who work so hard to keep our city and our people safe.
