The Danbury Police Department have announced the arrest of a Waterbury man who is currently facing multiple felonies after the department received numerous complaints of the alleged suspect dealing drugs right out of his vehicle.

This is not the first time that the Danbury Police have arrested Ramell "Mel" Crawford, of Morningside Ave in Waterbury. In fact, I wrote an article back in October 2020 about Crawford's arrest for these same charges. As it turns out, according to the press release from the Danbury PD, this is Crawford's third such arrest recently for the same offenses.

Wednesday afternoon, February 17, 2021, officers from the Danbury Police Special Investigations Division, the Patrol Division, and the DEA Taskforce set up surveillance on Crawford and attempted to serve him a search and seizure warrant in an apartment complex parking lot. According to police, Crawford saw them coming and fled on foot. It didn't last long, and he was captured. No drugs were found on the accused suspect himself, but plenty were found in his vehicle: Heroin, Crack, a scale, and cash were all found. Crawford was taken into custody and faces a laundry list of charges once again:

  • Possession of a Controlled Substance
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance With Intent to Sell
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance Within 1500 feet of a school
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License
  • Interference with a Police Officer

According to Danbury Police Detective LT. Mark Williams, Crawford is being held on a hefty $300,000 bond due to these and his past offenses.
