We regularly like to peruse the winners list of the Connecticut Lottery website here at work. It's nice to shout out someone locally that hit it big. It's not too often that you see the big scratch ticket prizes go out locally either. It's usually some dude from Bozrah, or North Branford, or some other small Connecticut town that you really have to think hard about to place geographically.

While we were looking though the list today, we came across the entry of the good fortune of Danbury resident Kenneth Barney, who bought a Connecticut Lottery 30X Cash instant scratch ticket from the Handy Stop in Highland Ave in Waterbury, and won $30,000.

This Handy Stop is a very familiar location to the residents of Town Plot in Waterbury. While most businesses along Highland Ave have transformed, like the Subway to Sweet Bella's, or Cavallo's into Subway, this convenience store has been slinging the tobacco and lotto tickets for almost as long as I can remember. At least the late 80s? I think they were even there when the convenience store on Bradley Ave was called Marcelina's?
