The Danbury Fair Carnival is returning to the Mall parking area, and it officially starts this week. It's family fun for everyone.

Look for the carnival, this year set up in the Macy's parking area and it all starts this Thursday and will continue at the Mall until June 6. The Danbury Fair Carnival is a throwback to the days of the Great Danbury State Fair.

So the big question on everyone's mind is, now that the mask mandate has been lifted for vaccinated people, will you still be required to wear a mask after entering the carnival? We talked with one of the Carnival Directors, Dean Carol, and he filled us in on the official protocol for the carnival.

"Right now, our policy is that all employees have to wear a mask while working with the public. Since we operate the carnival in multiple jurisdictions, and even though there are policies in Danbury, and the mask mandate has been lifted in the state of Connecticut, we will still be observing our policies. Granted, it will be hard to enforce mask wearing for those not vaccinated, but we will have signage posted strongly recommending wearing a mask and social distancing, however without asking for a vaccine card it's very difficult to enforce that no mask policy."

Now what about keeping the rides and attractions clean? Dean also filled us in on the carnivals policies for that as well:

"We are still following the procedures that we normally have for sanitization practices. Everything is being constantly cleaned for the safety of our customers. We have to be up on the local rules for every place we go. In some states, the local ordnance varies from the state ordnance. In Danbury, for example, it was just recently that the Mayor gave the green light for outdoor events even though the state was allowing it long before."

Wristbands for the carnival that entitle you to unlimited rides are available for $25, but you can receive $3 dollars off your POP wristband with your same day mall store receipt.

After the opening day this Thursday, the hours of operation for the Danbury Fair Carnival will be:

  • Mondays through Thursdays 5 -10 PM
  • Fridays 5 -11 PM
  • Saturdays 12 -11 PM
  • Sunday's 1 -10 PM

Everyone loves a carnival, and after a year where everything was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it's good to have fun events returning. Just remember to bring your mask just in case.
