CT Listed Near Top of Most Environmentally-Friendly States Study
The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection has done a hell of a job cleaning up the mistakes of our past, so much that we just landed near the top of a new study.
Living in New England amongst the millions that call our area home can be a bit dirty at times. Connecticut is sandwiched between some of the greatest and largest cities in the US, and we have to deal with our own waste. It can get a bit overwhelming at times keeping up with the waste that almost 3 million people can produce in a day, but according to a new study Connecticut has been listed as one of 2025's Best States for Environmental Protection.
To arrive at their rankings for 2025's Best States for Environmental Protection, SmileHub.org compared all 50 states across three key dimensions: Environmental Protection, Energy Consumption and Waste Disposal, and Emissions and Pollution Contributions. Those dimensions were further evaluated using 25 metrics, some of which were Green Buildings per capita, Vulnerability to Climate Change, Gasoline Consumption, Soil Quality, Total Tonnage of Landfill Waste per capita, Carbon Dioxide Emissions, and Median Air Quality.
Connecticut overall ranked at #14 out of 50, we have the lowest total tonnage of landfill waste per capita in the US for 2025, and our Emissions & Pollution Contributions rank was #5. Our Environmental Protection rank was #34, taking us down a few places in the overall standings. Maine just edged Connecticut in the rankings at #13, while New Jersey, Vermont, New York, and Massachusetts all made the Top 10. The worst state for environmental protection in 2025? Louisiana.
