So what happened here? In a new survey naming the cities with the best pizza in the country, New Haven, Connecticut was not at the top of the list.

It seems kind of strange that the city that some say has not only the best pizza in America, but the best pizza in the world was not number one on this new survey. New Haven, the home of Frank Pepe's Pizza, Sally's Apizza, and others, fell a little short on this year's list.

Now it's not like New Haven didn't even make the top 10, they came in third, but that means there are two other cities in America that apparently have better pizza.

The survey was put together by the folks at rent.com, and they compiled the results by using a number of different metrics, while looking at pizza in some 300 of the biggest cities in the country. To come up with the best, taste was a leading factor, but they also had to factor in how quick and easy it is to just grab a slice, and they also looked at saturation survivability based on the quality of the pizza, which if you know your pizza, is one of the hallmarks of a great slice.

Some of the other factors in determining the list were three primary considerations, the percentage of pizza restaurants in a city, the number of pizza places per square mile, and the number of pizza restaurants per 100,000 residents of that particular city.

Now don't get us wrong, the northeast was very well represented with 9 of the Top 10 cities being either in New York, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania.

So here's a look at the list, the Top 10 cities with the best pizza in the country.

  1. Rochester, NY
  2. Pittsburgh, PA
  3. New Haven, CT
  4. Philadelphia, PA
  5. Bridgeport, CT
  6. Miami, FL
  7. Buffalo, NY
  8. Cambridge, MA
  9. Worcester, MA
  10. Manchester, NH
