Connecticut’s New Congresswoman Appears on ‘Rolling Stone’ Cover
As the song once said, "there's nothing like the thrill that'll gitcha when you get your picture on the cover of the Rollin' Stone." It's happened for Jahana Hayes just a few months after being elected to serve Connecticut's 5th Congressional district.
Rolling Stone's latest magazine cover features are topic that they are calling, "Women who are shaping the future of politics." Jahana Hayes, a former educator and Teacher of the Year, is pictured on the prestigious cover, along with fellow Democrats, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi of California, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, and Rep. Illhan Omar of Minnesota.
The article highlights Hayes' journey from teen mom, to Teacher of the Year, to the House of Representatives. She told Rolling Stone that “we are at an intersection in history, and 20 years from now, it’s going to be the millennials and the students and the women and the single moms and the outliers who came in and restored faith in government”.
Hayes, who grew up in Waterbury, CT, was elected to the 5th District seat, which was formerly held by U.S. Rep Elizabeth Esty in November. The 5th District encompasses portions of Fairfield, Hartford, Litchfield and New Haven counties.
