According to a new study from Storeganise, when it comes to rent prices, Connecticut stands out—not for its affordability, but for its jaw-dropping costs that leave many renters gasping for air, I know I can't breathe. With an average rent of $1,992 per month and a rent per square foot of $2.23, Connecticut ranks a disheartening 34th in the nation for value.

In contrast, states like North Dakota offer spacious apartments for just $1.10 per square foot, making it clear that Connecticut is in a league of its own when it comes to exorbitant rent prices.

The state's high costs are even worse in the cities and coastal towns, where space is limited, and demand is high. I know from living in the Hat City, there is no inventory available in Danbury. This means people are getting in bidding wars over even the crappiest places and renters are shelling out top dollar for less square footage.

The average apartment size in the state is only 892 square feet, which translates to tight quarters and empty wallets. Our neighbors in New York apparently have it worse, I'm not sure how that is possible but that is what this report says.

New York leads the pack with the least affordable rent at a face-melting $3.23 per square foot, closely followed by Massachusetts and Hawaii at $3.16. With Connecticut's rental prices edging closer to these extreme figures, it’s clear that living here often means sacrificing comfort for cost. I'm starting my sacrifices by killing of streaming services and never eating again. It's the great TV/Hunger strikes of 2024.

As rent prices continue to rise and the cost of living in Connecticut shows no signs of slowing down, many are forced to ask: how much longer can we survive in one of the most expensive states in America?
