According to WalletHub, Connecticut is officially one of the least stressed states in America… and I’m sorry, what? I read that and immediately looked out the window like I was being pranked.

Because the Connecticut I see on a daily basis? That is not a calm, peaceful, stress-free utopia. I step outside and it’s just a sea of stress. People with that thousand-yard stare at stoplights, drivers gripping the wheel like they’re in the Daytona 500, someone aggressively sipping coffee like it personally offended them. You’ve got people rubbing their eyes, pulling at their hair, biting their nails… and that’s before they even get to work.

But somehow, we landed near the bottom of the stress rankings—in a good way.

WalletHub looked at a bunch of factors—work hours, money issues, sleep, health, family life—and after crunching all that data, Connecticut came in at #43 out of 50. In other words, we’re supposedly one of the more relaxed places to live in the country.

Here are the most stressed states in America:

1. Louisiana
2. Kentucky
3. New Mexico
4. West Virginia
5. Arkansas
6. Nevada
7. Oklahoma
8. Oregon
9. Mississippi
10. Alabama

And here are the least stressed states:

41. Iowa
42. Massachusetts
43. Connecticut
44. North Dakota
45. Idaho
46. Vermont
47. New Hampshire
48. Minnesota
49. Utah
50. South Dakota

Now, to be fair, when you look at the states at the top of the stress list, it starts to make more sense. A lot of them are dealing with bigger financial struggles, higher poverty rates, and more health-related challenges. That kind of stuff adds up quickly.

Meanwhile, Connecticut scores pretty well in a lot of those categories. We’re not working the longest hours, we’re not leading the country in financial distress, and overall, people are doing okay when it comes to health and sleep.

But let’s get back to reality for a second.

Have you driven on I-84? Tried merging anywhere in this state? Stood behind someone at Dunkin’ who takes five minutes to order one coffee? There is nothing about that experience that screams “low stress.”

And the weather? One day it’s 60 and sunny, the next you’re freezing your face off wondering why you live here. That alone should bump us up at least a few spots.

I think what this really comes down to is this: on paper, Connecticut looks stable. But day-to-day life? The vibes? Completely different story.

Because if this is one of the least stressed states in America, I’d love to see what it looks like in the most stressed ones. Are people just screaming in the streets?

All I know is this—if you dropped a WalletHub analyst at a busy Connecticut intersection during rush hour, we’d climb that list real fast.
