According to a new study from WalletHub, Connecticut may be a great place to live, but it apparently isn't one of the best places to hit the open road this summer.

WalletHub recently ranked all 50 states to determine the best and worst destinations for summer road trips. The study looked at dozens of factors, including road safety, travel costs, attractions, scenery, and overall driving experience. Unfortunately for Connecticut, the results were less than flattering.

The Nutmeg State landed at No. 48 overall, making it the third-worst state in America for a road trip. Only Delaware and Rhode Island ranked lower.

If you've ever spent time sitting in traffic on I-95, the Merritt Parkway, I-84, or Route 8, this ranking may not come as much of a shock. According to WalletHub, Connecticut struggled in several key categories, including affordability and available attractions. The state ranked 46th for travel costs and 43rd for activities, making it a tough sell for travelers looking to maximize fun while keeping expenses under control.

Another area where Connecticut performed poorly was vehicle repair costs. In fact, WalletHub found Connecticut has the highest average car repair costs in the nation. That's not exactly the kind of statistic you want to see before packing up the family SUV for a summer adventure.

The top states, meanwhile, offer a much different experience. Minnesota claimed the top spot thanks to its combination of safety, affordability, festivals, and outdoor recreation. Utah and Louisiana rounded out the top three.

Of course, Connecticut still has plenty to offer visitors, from shoreline towns and state parks to great restaurants and charming New England scenery. But if you're judging strictly by WalletHub's formula of cost, safety, attractions, and driving conditions, Connecticut has some room for improvement.
