When I was growing up, a job in law enforcement was considered a great gig. It was a stable way to earn a living, and police were respected members of the community. You don’t need to be super plugged into current events to know that the job doesn’t carry the same reputation it once did—but there’s good news for cops in Connecticut, according to a new study from WalletHub

.

The study looked at all 50 states plus D.C. and ranked them based on how good they are for building a law enforcement career. They factored in everything from average salary and benefits to officer safety and public spending on police. Connecticut had a great showing in the study.

Despite national headlines about police reform, public scrutiny, and department controversies, there are still departments that offer strong support, solid pay, and a safe working environment. Connecticut ranked:

  • #1 for job hazards and protections

  • #2 for compensation and benefits

  • #51 (last) for opportunity and competition, which isn’t ideal—but if you’re already in the system, it means less turnover and more stability.

It’s not a perfect picture, but it looks a lot better when you start comparing state-to-state.

The study says Connecticut still backs its cops with good pay, and strong protections. I don't know if all Connecticut law enforcement officers would agree but that is what a zoomed-out national study determined.
