Connecticut Podcasts Set to Explode in 2024, the New Gold Rush
It's no secret that Americans love their podcasts. Everyone wants to tell their story, share their opinion and be heard. The podcast is a tool that has taken the everyday American and given them a voice like never before.
While I knew all of that, I was unaware how many people are getting set to launch their own show. A new study from Podcastle says 18% of Americans are going to start a podcast this year (2024). That is a HUGE number, you can't get 18% of Americans to agree on anything but with podcasting a lot of people seem to be on the same page.
What about Connecticut? That number is even more staggering. The same study shows that 33% of Nutmeggers will start a podcast in 2024. That number puts us in the Top 3 nationally.
Top States for New Podcasts in 2024:
North Dakota - 50%
Rhode Island - 43%
Tie Connecticut & Delaware - 33%
What is the number 1 reason people want to start a podcast? 33% of people say they want to start their own show to make money.
Other Study Findings:
- Almost 1 in 5 Americans are starting a podcast this year
- Over a third of Americans want to start a podcast to make money
- 68% of the most popular podcasts follow an interview format
- 70% of people say their top podcast ick is too many ads, followed by poor audio quality (49%)
Podcastle is a good tool for getting started, they provide advice on hardware, software and the do's and don't.
I hesitate to offer advice because I'd never want to point someone in the wrong direction but there is one thing that I know to be true. Making money off a podcast is really difficult so I would not embark on this if that is your only goal.
Do it because you love it, do it because it gives you a creative outlet, do it because it's a healthy hobby but don't do it for money alone. If your only reason for creating a show is to make money, you could easily find this to be a long and disappointing road.
I'm not trying to suggest that making money is impossible but it does not happen for everyone and according to this study there are already 3 million active podcasts globally.
