This Local Drive-In Movie Theater Named One of the 7 Coolest in the U.S.
My name is Ethan Carey, and I'm a Boomer and proud of it! According to history.com, on June 6, 1933, eager motorists parked their automobiles on the grounds of Camden Drive-In, the first-ever drive-in movie theater, located on Admiral Wilson Boulevard in Pennsauken, New Jersey.
Between the late 1950s and early 1960s, there were over 4,000 drive-ins spread across the country. My favorite drive-in years were 1968 and 1969, as well as my junior and senior years of high school. My girlfriend Sharon and I were big fans of the drive-in because it was an ideal place to be alone.
We would park, grab some snacks, hook the small speaker box to the lip of the window, crawl into the back seat, and make out like it was the end of the world until our windows were completely fogged up.
Today, fewer than 500 drive-in theaters remain in the United States. In April 2023, Redbook.com dug in deep to find the '7 Coolest Drive-In Movie Theaters in the U.S.' One of those seven is only one hour from Danbury: 'Four Brothers Drive-In,' located in Amenia, New York.
'Four Brothers' is only 30 minutes from Pawling, NY...1 hour and 7 minutes from Ridgefield...52 minutes from Carmel, NY...1 hour from Brewster, NY...and only 42 minutes from New Milford. The following drive-in movie theaters were ranked the '7 Coolest Drive-Ins in the United States.'
