Southbury Man Accused of Illegally Killing Bear
I know we're often fearful when it comes to bears, but I really don't think you should take this type of action into your own hands.
Bears. They are everywhere around Connecticut. Seems like we barely go a day or so without another account of back yard bears and more. Sometimes it's a ever so cute picture of bears on the porch, bears climbing the fence, bears frolicking in the family pool. Other times it's tales of destruction like this: "Bear Freaks Out and Trashes The Interior Of Connecticut Woman's Car."
Fast forward just a few days, and we find a man arrested in Connecticut. In a story from wtnh.com the man from Southbury has been accused of illegally killing a bear. Police say Joshua Gendron allegedly shot and killed a black bear recently in his mother-in-law's yard. According to police, Gendron claimed he tried to scare the bear off by shooting towards it. When that failed, he allegedly killed it. Officials say he didn't have a pistol permit, and he's been charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, unlawful discharge of a weapon and illegal taking of bear.
I'm not going to judge, but I am going to say that I know many people who've encountered bears numerous times in their yards and never felt the need to kill them.
