Connecticut Lawmakers Pass First Step Towards Recreational Marijuana
Recreational marijuana is creeping closer and closer to reality in Connecticut.
Wfsb.com has reported that a bill that spelled out details of a legalized system of recreational marijuana including who could buy and even grow it was passed by the General Law Committee. The passage of this bill will also establish licensing for marketing and selling cannabis and cannabis products in Connecticut.
Next up is a bill that the Judiciary Committee will vote on this Thursday, March 28. If it passes, this bill will create a new cannabis control commission, which will allow individuals aged 21 and over to purchase marijuana. That same bill will consider if consumers will be allowed to grow their own cannabis.
In the coming weeks, legislative committees will vote on whether to remove criminal records for those individuals who have already been convicted of marijuana crimes and another bill will determine a tax rate for legal marijuana.
