Connecticut is a Short Drive Away From Some of the Best Fall Destinations in the Country
We are approaching the best season Connecticut has to offer (in my opinion) but I think many will agree.
Fall in Connecticut is like no other. The highways are lined with beautiful colors, the weather is great, the trees look gorgeous, it's a great time of year if I do say so myself. A lot of people from all over head to the East Coast for fall, especially New England. Some of my favorites to visit this time of year are New Hampshire and Vermont. You won't see anything like it.
USA Today recently came out with a list of the best places around the country to visit for fall. Now first and foremost, Connecticut didn't make the list. I can't confirm whether I agree with it or not because I have not been to all of these places, so I haven't seen what fall is like there. But if it were up to me, I think Connecticut deserved some love in that list.
While some places on the list included Asheville, North Carolina, Bayfield, Wisconsin, Ohio, Colorado, Texas, Tennessee, and more, I was shocked to see the little representation from our side of the country. While most of the locations weren't from around here, there were still some that are a short drive from Connecticut and worth the visit.
Which locations are drivable from Connecticut? Let's take a look. Bar Harbor, Maine was one of the first locations to represent our side. Bar Harbor is known for its beauty and cuteness as well as its location, so it's no surprise to me that it's on the list. Since it's so close to Acadia National Park, it's known as a perfect spot for fall. While I wouldn't necessarily consider the drive "short", it's still doable for a long weekend clocking in at about 7 and a half hours from Danbury.
The other 2 locations to make the list were from our neighbor in New York. Ithaca was next, siting that the farms that dot their area make it a great fall destination for visitors. They have something called Cider Week New York that has some of the best ciders in the industry and the Apple Harvest Festival which is a perfect way for people to spend their fall day. Ithaca is a more reasonable drive coming in at 3 hours and 40 minutes.
Saratoga County, New York was also featured. Their Saratoga Corinth & Hudson Railway offers "a cozy way to view the changing leaves, and several boat tours offer stunning fall views from the water." They have a Downtown Saratoga Springs Fall Festival that is another great way of spending your day. Saratoga County is 2 hours and 40 minutes from Danbury.
I needed to give an honorable mention to this next one because I love it there. Stowe, Vermont also made this list and that is one that I completely agree with. I try making it up to Stowe yearly and it never disappoints. It is becoming one of my favorite places.
I still feel like Connecticut has so much to offer when it comes to fall, but I won't argue with the data provided. If it were up to us to make the list, it would look a little bit different. Which parts of Connecticut would you deem as the absolute must-need places to visit in the fall?
