A nightmarish scenario is developing around a home on Liberty Street in Meriden Connecticut.

A sinkhole nearly 20-feet deep continues to widen in the backyard of a Liberty St. home in Meriden and has now become a disturbing development throughout the neighborhood according to a report in the Meriden Patch.

Currently, the sinkhole measures 15 feet wide and 20 feet deep and was discovered on Easter Sunday when a tree fell into the home because of the sinkhole. The Department of Public Works has filled up the hole with rocks but it continues to grow wider and deeper.

Meriden's Director of Public Works told the Meriden Record-Journal that the main problem is a collapsing slab of concrete built over a 150-year-old culvert which needs to be repaired.
