Do you feel like you could ask your neighbor, or a complete stranger for help, and would they come through for you? Here in Connecticut, yes. According to a new study Connecticut is among the most charitable states in the US.

I've found that most of my neighbors and even strangers passing by in my times of need are more than willing to lend a hand, but there are some states where people can't afford to help by donating their time or money. In order to arrive at their Most Charitable States rankings WalletHub compared the 50 states across two key dimensions: Volunteering & Service, and Charitable Giving. Those dimensions were further evaluated using 17 key metrics, and graded on a 100 point scale. Some of the 17 metrics were: Volunteer rate and hours per capita, share of population collecting/distributing food or clothing, amount of money people would lend their neighbor in need, share of income donated, public charities per capita, top-rated charities per capita, and share of sheltered homeless.

According to the rankings Wyoming if the most charitable state in the US for 2026, while the worst is New Mexico. Connecticut just missed the Top 10 ranking at #13, and the only New England state to rank higher was Maine at #8. Connecticut was found to have the 16th highest rate of volunteering and service, and ranked 20th in Charitable giving. My charitable giving has taken a hit over the past two years.
