Have a Baby, Connecticut is a Great State for That
Having a baby is one of the biggest responsibilities a person can take on — and that still somehow feels like an understatement. You need a plan for everything — your budget, your schedule, your sleep (RIP), and your sanity. And just when you think you’ve figured it all out, someone hits you with a terrifying term like “hand, foot and mouth disease,” or starts ranting about how cutthroat youth sports have become.

Then there’s the pressure to pick the right daycare, navigate school systems, and drop thousands of dollars a year on activities that involve uniforms, gear, snacks, and sitting on bleachers every weekend for the rest of time. Oh, and don’t forget the hospital bills. Because even before you meet your baby, your wallet is already screaming.
So, where you live when you decide to bring a child into this world matters. Some states are better than others — and luckily for us, Connecticut is actually one of the good ones.
According to a new WalletHub study, the Nutmeg State ranks 11th overall in the U.S. for best states to have a baby. Even better? We’re 5th in the nation for childcare centers per capita, which is great news for anyone already stressing over waitlists before the baby is even born.

According to the Wallet Hub report, in 2025, it’s more expensive than ever to have a child. Inflation has driven up the cost of everything — especially medical care. The average hospital birth with insurance will still run you over $2,600. Without insurance? You could be looking at close to $15,000.
But cost isn’t the only factor WalletHub considered. Their ranking looked at 31 different things — from how expensive childcare is, to how many pediatricians are available, to how friendly the overall environment is for raising kids.

I used to love when people were freaking out, and someone would say "don't have a baby."
P.S. If you're having a baby and you're a first-time father, I must warn you the delivery room is a butcher shop nightmare whose grips you'll never escape. Those images stand the test of time.
