A 32-year-old man from Cheshire faces a long list of charges after allegedly fleeing multiple law enforcement agencies during a wild pursuit through most of the greater Waterbury area.

The chain of events started last Friday, September 6, when Troopers from the Connecticut State Police - Troop A responded to a report of an accident at 9:27AM on I-84 Westbound near Exit 19 in Waterbury. According to cspnews.org, responding Troopers were alerted that one of the vehicles allegedly involved in the accident had fled the scene, a white Hyundai Elantra, and was last spotted headed towards Exit 17 and Chase Parkway. A responding trooper caught up to the Hyundai near the Chase Parkway/Country Club Road intersection.

After boxing the Hyundai in, the suspect maneuvered the damaged vehicle in the direction of the Trooper, allegedly ignored verbal demands, and almost dragged the Trooper with it while fleeing the scene. The pursuit continued down the hill in through Waterbury onto Riverside Street, where the Hyundai merged onto Route 8 Southbound.

Troopers from Troop I - Bethany spotted the Hyundai at Exit 26 in Naugatuck, and a Beacon Falls Officer later attempted a traffic stop on Rt. 63. The operator of the Hyundai allegedly lost control during the pursuit near the intersection of Bowman Drive, drove over someone's front yard, and ended up smashed into a tree. Finally, the Beacon Falls Officer took the suspect into custody following a foot pursuit.

The operator of the white Hyundai has been identified as Christopher Robinson, 32, of Cheshire. Robinson was taken into custody, arrested, and has been charged with Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree, Interfering with an Officer, two counts of Illegal Operation of a Motor Vehicle Under Suspension, Engaging Police in Pursuit, Disobeying a Signal of an Officer, Evading Responsibility in Operation of Motor Vehicles, Failure to Drive in Proper Lane, and Reckless Driving. Robinson was released on $100,000 and $2,000 bonds, and is scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on 9/24/24 and 9/26/24.
