Popular Connecticut Cheesecake Factory Location to Close, Danbury Restaurant Still OK

The effects of the coronavirus shutdown has taken out another big name in the restaurant business here in Connecticut. In a letter addressed to the Connecticut Department of Labor, and Stamford Mayor David Martin, legal counsel representing the Cheesecake Factory announced that they will be permanently closing their location in the Stamford Town Center, located on Tresser Boulevard, as of August 1, 2020.

The letter states: "Business conditions rapidly and suddenly deteriorated during the continuing COVID-19 crisis, national emergency, and state and local shutdown orders. The Cheesecake Factory markets have softened over a period of several months and this is anticipated to continue. Company management therefore has concluded that the company will cease operation of the restaurant location at Stamford Town Center, 230 Tresser Boulevard, Stamford, Connecticut 06901, effective at the close of business on August 1, 2020."

The employees at the Stamford location had been on a temporary furlough since March 17, 2020. These furloughs become permanent, and the closure of the business will become permanent, at the conclusion of business 8-1-20.

This is the only Connecticut Cheesecake Factory that is being shut down, there are three other Cheececake Factory locations currently: Danbury at the Danbury Fair Mall, Trumbull at the Westfield Trumbull Mall, and in West Hartford's Blue Back Square.

The closure affects 104 employees, with 25 servers, 22 line cooks, 11 prep cooks, and dozens of management, bartenders, bussers, dishwashers, and hosts all being let go.

Downtown Stamford is a notoriously tough place to maintain restaurants and bars over a long period of time. Stamford Town Center, like most national indoor malls, has had a lot of turnover of their retail space recently. Maybe it's time for Dave & Buster's to look towards Stamford?
