5 Outstanding Greater Danbury Bakeries to Visit on National Pie Day
According to the National Day Calendar, this Friday, Dec.1 is National Pie Day!
I don't know about you, but I'm all about homemade pie. I love pie so much, Mindy and I don't dare bring home a homemade apple or fresh pumpkin pie because it would be gone within three to five hours. We save our pie eating for special holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas.
What's your favorite kind of pie? Is it pumpkin, apple, maybe cherry or key lime pie? I've done the research both on the internet and with my own taste buds to let you know about 5 of the best Greater Danbury locations to score the best pie just in time for National Pie Day this Friday.
- 1
American Pie Company - Sherman
The American Pie Company is located in the quaint small town of Sherman where they not only craft their own pies in their bakery but cook up some of northern Fairfield County's most unique menu items for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. My favorite American Pie Company pies are their apple crumb and peach/blueberry. All of their pie crusts are made from scratch.

Blue Jay Orchards - Bethel
Blue Jay Orchards at 125 Plumtrees Rd. in Bethel is not only one of Fairfield County's best places to pick apples but it's also legendary for their on-site bakery. The two most requested bakery items are their homemade Famous Cider Donuts and their amazing apple pies. This is your quintessential New England experience and simply perfect for a day out with the family.
- 3
The Goodie Shoppe - New Fairfield
The Goodie Shoppe is located in the center of New Fairfield at the intersection of Rt.37 and Rt.39. I've known the owner/master bakery chef, Mark Jayson for the last 20 years and I can attest that everything in the Goodie Shoppe is homemade from the cookies to his many varieties of bread, pies to cakes, and my favorite, black & white cookies. His pumpkin pie is the best I've ever tasted! And his blueberry and corn muffins are to die for!

Mothership Bakery & Cafe - Danbury
Mothership Bakery & Cafe at 331 Main St. in Danbury has been named, deservedly so The Best in Food and Drink for 2017 by Connecticut Magazine. They excel in so many different culinary delicacies from sandwiches to coffees to their soups and desserts. Mothership is one of those' 'worth the drive' eateries. Trust me, go there!

Stew Leonards - Danbury
Everyone knows what a wonderful place Stew Leonards is to shop with their singing animals and animated milk cartons. What I love about the Danbury store is that when you walk into Stews, you're immediately surrounded by Bethy's Bakery, pies, cakes, and muffins by the hundreds filling your nostrils with those delicious smells of baked goods! And pies, my God the pies. You name the flavor and they have it, apple, blueberry, pecan, key lime, pumpkin. If you're looking for that huge variety and homemade quality, Stew Leonards is your place, my friends!
