Boughton on Oliver: ‘He Did Payoff A Lot, Almost All of Our Teacher Requests’
As the media volley between Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton and Comedian John Oliver continues, the Mayor shared some wonderful news with the Ethan and Lou Show Thursday morning (9/10/20), saying:
He did, and we're very grateful for this, payoff a lot, almost all of our teachers requests. There's a website, I can't think of the name of it, where you can say 'oh I need a new smart board and you know, can you help me'. It's sort of like a Go Fund Me for teachers. He paid all the Danbury requests off, about $26,000 worth, he did that on Labor Day. So, very grateful and I thought that was a really nice gesture on his part.
Well, I read this entire thing wrong from the beginning, good for John Oliver and I no longer want to fight him. I am wrong, I was wrong and I have no problem being wrong about a situation that ends up benefiting our city's schools.
I know what some of you might be saying, "you were way wrong." I was, when he first offered money, I argued against taking it, I acted like a baby because I was not involved in this media circus that I so badly wanted to be involved with. I am over it, good on you John and thank you for helping out the Hat City.
P.S. I reserve the right to change my mind, I reserve the right to be wrong and I reserve the right to change my mind again, later, should I get pissed off again.
Below is a portion of the Ethan and Lou segment with the Danbury Mayor where he addresses the gift from Oliver.
Here is a quick timeline of war of words.
