Boat Fire On Candlewood Lake, Local Firefighters Respond
Local firefighters sprung into action in the early hours of Friday morning (July 5) to extinguish a boat fire on Candlewood Lake.
According to a social media post from the Candlewood Company of the Brookfield Volunteer Department, both of the town's fire companies responded to the Brookfield Bay Marina just before 3:00 AM following the report of a boat fire.
When Engine 21 arrived on the scene, they realized that the fire was "fully involved" and that it could potentially spread to other boats nearby. From there, Engine 22 went to work over on North Lake Shore Drive so that both crews could attack the fire on two fronts from both sides of the cove.
Further assistance on the scene was provided by Brookfield's Engine 4, a local tanker and firefighters from New Fairfield. The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) was called regarding the HAZMAT situation.
All in all, the scene was clear right around 5:00 AM on Friday and there were no injuries reported.
