An open letter to the community:

My dad, Luis Garcia is a loving father, husband to Aurora Pereira, a member of the Portuguese community and a longtime resident of Danbury, CT.

Back in 2013 he was diagnosed with Stage 4 gastric cancer. The same strand which took his wife, my mother, away 12 years prior. Despite all odds being against him, he was able to beat it and come out the other side a Cancer survivor.

Fast-forward to June 2020, he is faced with an all too familiar battle. Our family was given the news that he now has Prostate Cancer. Everyone thought the battle was over, but it is only just starting up again. This came as a great shock to the family and now we're scrambling.

This is not going to be an easy path by any means or a cheap one, especially during COVID times. So now I come and ask the community for help.

His prostatectomy surgery, happening July 28th, is going to cost approximately $20,000 out of pocket. I can only hope that after speaking with the insurance company again we can get this cost down, but there is no guarantee.

Please consider helping Luis by donating to his GoFundMe account. Any amount can help tremendously. We need everyone's help, prayers and good vibrations now for my dad, myself and the rest of the family. Together we can help him beat Cancer’s butt yet again!

I thank everyone in advance for the help and thoughtful comments. A big thank you to i95Rock for allowing me to use this platform to reach out to everyone in the community.

Much Love,
Alyssa Garcia
