8 Local Ideas to Give Dad A Bad-Ass Father’s Day in Connecticut
Father's day is Sunday, and rather than another tie or a barbecue grill brush, here are a few ideas of things that scream "Dad" to give your father the most bad-ass Father's Day ever.
AXE THROWING
What could possibly be more "Dad" than an afternoon of axe throwing? There are three facilities in Connecticut where you can hurl axes at targets: Montana Nights in Newington, Blue Ox in Wallingford and Pine & Iron in Hartford. Reservations are recommended for all three places so you'll want to plan ahead for this excursion.
FIELD OF DREAMS SCREENING
The RIdgefield Playhouse is offering a special Father's Day screening of Field of Dreams Sunday at 4 PM. Come early and for a small donation, you can get a photo taken and create a custom Danbury Westerners baseball card to help support the Westerners. Also, bring your glove because you'll definitely want to have a catch with dear ol' Dad after watching this film.
OUTLAW MUSIC FESTIVAL
Willie Nelson, Phil Lesh and Friends and more rock the Xfinity Theatre in Hartford starting at 3 PM on Sunday afternoon.
SCENIC TRAIN RIDE
If you just want to enjoy some scenery and hang with Dad for an hour and a half or so, the Railroad Museum of New England offers train rides from Thomaston though the Naugatuck Valley. The ride departs at noon.
CLASSIC CAR SHOW
Check out a bunch of classic cars with Dad at Mathews Park in Norwalk as the New England Auto Museum hosts their Father's Day Car Show from 10 AM- 3PM. Admission is free, or display your car for $20.
GONE FISHING EVENT
Bass Pro Shops in Bridgeport is hosting a Gone Fishing event on Sunday from 1-4 PM. There's a catch & release pond, a photo download station, fishing seminars and a free fishing booklet for the first 100 kids.
BEERS WITH DAD
You may just want to knock back a cold one with Dad on Sunday afternoon. Charter Oak Brewing in Danbury is hosting a Father's Day celebration from noon-5 with 10 beers on tap, special limited edition releases, a food truck and a free pint glass with a growler purchase.
SMOKE & VINES FATHER'S DAY BARBECUE
Wine, cigars and BBQ... sounds like Father's Day to me. Celebrate with Dad at Sunset Meadow Vineyards in Goshen for their Smoke & Vines Father's Day BBQ from 6:30- 8:30 PM.
There you go -- a whole day full of stuff to do with Dad. And seriously, we love the tie.
