We all owe a debt of gratitude to the men and women that have served and are currently serving our country in the military.

This Veterans Day, there are plenty of places in the local area that our service men and women can go to get some special discounts and some free food.

These brave men and women put their lives on the line everyday. Veterans represent the best of America. Their bravery and love for their country has earned them the dignity that comes with wearing the uniform and defending our flag.

Keeping that in mind, the least we could do for them on Veterans Day is offer them a discount or a free meal. Here are six places around the local area where Veterans can take advantage of some nice discounts and get a free meal on Veterans Day:

1- Kohl's is doubling its regular military discount in honor of Veterans Day. Kohl's is known for offering a 15% military discount on Mondays. Now, Kohl's is sweetening the deal by giving active-duty service members, veterans and their immediate families 30% off store items.  Costumers must show a valid military ID, military dependent/family ID or veteran ID at the point of purchase to redeem the offer.

2- Texas Roadhouse in Danbury is offering free lunch on Veterans Day for Active and past Veterans. Identification is required.

3- Applebee's is offering Veterans and Active Duty Military a free meal from a limited menu on Veteran’s Day. As is the case with most of these deals proof of service required.

4- Denny's  will give all active, non-active or retired military personnel a free Build Your Own Grand Slam breakfast on Monday, Nov. 11, from 5 a.m. to noon. Diners must show ID to receive this offer.

5- Walgreen's will be giving a 20% discount to all Veterans, and active duty military on Monday, Nov. 11. Must present a Balance Rewards card and a valid Military ID, or proof of service to receive discount on eligible items.

6- Lowe's will  provide a free, full-size American flag on Veterans Day to the first 100 customers at every store with any purchase. Lowe’s will also offer free mini, parade-size flags, up to 1,000, at each store. Lowe’s also offers 10% off to all veterans and active duty service members every day by signing up for a MyLowes card (not a credit card).

These are just some of the many discounts and deals that will be offered to Veterans. Just remember the sacrifice that these brave men and women have made for our freedom, so if you see a Veteran, make sure you thank him or her for their service.
