If you're in the mood for the sweet taste of a lobster roll, there are hundreds of restaurants throughout Connecticut that can satisfy your craving. But, if you're searching for the tastiest lobster roll on the perfect bun, it's time for a road trip to Connecticut's coast.

There are two types of lobster rolls; the cold mayo lobster roll from Maine or the hot buttered lobster roll created in Connecticut. I have to go with hot buttered all day long! Let's gas up the car and I'll show you where to find 5 of the very best hot buttered lobster rolls in the state.

Abbott's Lobster in the Rough - Noank

Right on the water in Noank, CT, Abbott's has won first place several times in Connecticut Magazine's 'Best Restaurants' edition for 'Best Seafood in CT.  Sure, you can chow down on mussels, clams, shrimp, and their fantastic clam chowder, but whatever you do, save room for one of their legendary hot buttered lobster rolls. As of May 21, they've reopened some of their outdoor seating. My advice would be to make the drive before the summer season kicks in, and the lines get long.

After 11 years in Branford operating as a food truck, Nick and Arlene Crismale wanted to move their business where they could offer fresh lobster and clams caught fresh off his boats the same day. They offer three kinds of chowder and a lobster roll with a 1/4 pound of lobster meat on a freshly buttered grinder roll. They are currently accepting phone orders for curbside pickup only from 12 pm to 7 pm.

Captain Scott's Lobster Dock - New London

As you walk up to Captain Scotts' you'll be blown away by the quaint ambiance of the place and the views from Shaw's Harbor. It's not surprising that the hot buttered lobster roll is the most popular item on their menu. You'll be served hot lobster meat drizzled with warm butter inside a toasted roll and served with a side of coleslaw. I thought I had died and gone to heaven! The good news is they just opened their patio for dining. Trust me; Captain Scotts' is well worth the 90-minute ride from New Fairfield.
