2019 Marks Biggest Year Yet For Hudson Valley Movie, TV Business
The Hudson Valley movie and television business contributed more than $46 million to the local economy in 2019. The Hudson Valley Film Commission has released some very impressive numbers and shows significant growth year over year. In 2018, direct regional spending topped $29 million.
But what does it all mean?
Of that $46 million in spending, 42,164 hotel rooms were rented, more than 180 different locations across the area were used in addition to the more than 4,000 local actors and extras hired. Over 50 productions scouted the Hudson Valley last year with 25 becoming a reality in Ulster, Dutchess, Orange, Sullivan, Greene, Delaware and Columbia counties where 500+ local crew members were also put to work.
According to the HV Film Commission, since 2010 the Governor's Office of Motion Picture and Television Development has received 2,280 applications resulting in $28.2 billion dollars of in-state spending. It's estimated that productions invest $4.50 in the local economy for every $1 in tax credits issued.
Major projects in 2019 included the HBO production of I Know This Much Is True starring Mark Ruffalo, John Krasinski's A Quiet Place Part II, and Showtime's Billions.
The future is bright for the movie and television business in the area and the Hudson Valley Film Commission is largely to thank for their efforts.
