MoneyGeek, a financial technology company, crunched the numbers of small cities and towns with populations of 30,000 to 100,000 residents. After analyzing crime statistics by measuring the cost of crime, it was determined which ten small towns in America were the safest.
Franklin, Massachusetts, with a population of 34,000, earned the top spot. Two Hudson Valley towns considered the safest in America were Carmel, NY at number 3 and Yorktown, NY at number 5.
MoneyGeek.com applied research from the National Institutes of Health along with the cost of crime and types of crime to arrive at their findings.
What's not to love about Carmel? It defines the definition of "small-town charm". Highlights include Fahnestock State Park, Mt. Ninham State Forest, and the legendary Chuang Yen Monastery, not to mention Carmel's unique eclectic main street. Switching gears to Yorktown, NY, the number 5 Safest Town in the U.S.A, according to Moneygeek.com.
In the category of Safest Small Cities in America, Greenwich came in at 26, Wallingford at 31, and Shelton ranked 53. To read about MoneyGeeks methodology along with a complete list of the Safest Small Cities and Towns in America, click on moneygeek.com.
