17-Year-Old Deaf Dog Rescued From Ravine at Connecticut Park
Sadie is a 17-year-old Chesapeake Bay Retriever and she'd been missing since July 27.
Nbcconnecticut.com. tells the story about that Saturday when Sadie had slipped out of her collar at Sleeping Giant State Park in Hamden. Sadie is deaf so trying to hear the call-outs from potential rescuers was futile. Hiker, Steve Tobey had already been out a couple of times in Sleeping Giant looking for Sadie.
All of sudden, Tobey heard a bark and thought it might be coming from a ledge but he was wrong. Sadie had somehow gotten herself stuck underground in a deep ravine. Sadie's owner, Chris Roush eventually located the ravine but others had already found the location and were attempting to get Sadie to safety.
Another searcher named Russel eventually maneuvered himself into the ravine and got a leash around Sadie's neck and led her to safety. Roush said it was a heartwarming moment,
I hadn't seen this dog in four days and she's been with me for 15 years so I thought I'd lost her.
Besides being weak and dehydrated, Sadie didn't have any physical injuries.
